Palmerston North band the Bing Turkby Ensemble (BTE) are the first local band to
get a music video on C4.
The BTE opened for Elemeno P and Goodnight Nurse at the Colleseum last night.
Riding high on a competition win on C4, the BTE will get more airtime on the music
channel.
The group started off as one man with a 4-track album and has evolved into a three-piece
(sax, drums and guitar) pop rock outfit. This year the trio consisting of Craig
Johnston aka Bing Turkby himself on guitar and vocals, David Rhee aka Snatchlock
Cutpenny on drums, and Stuart Hubbard aka Tyrone T. Blowhard on saxaphone.
Bing himself plays on his made to order backless "Turkby Tone Mach III" guitar.
"When playing live we rock hard, and take no prisoners, mainly because we do not
have a secure facility in which to house them," Bing says.
The band have played at Massey orientation earlier this year, played at NZ Musician
Magazine 100th Issue and did a short South Island Tour.
Next on the agenda for the group is a North Island tour and a CD compilation, 10
Years of Turkby.
